What color are your shoes?

Sadly, few men know that there are more shoe colors than black and brown. Of those, you have to subtract the ones who know how to match those two colors with every suit.

Black: Or charcoal at most, black with black, only black, and that's it. You can use different types of textures according to the season; for example, if it's winter, black suede shoes are excellent and very elegant. Patent leather, snakeskin, and satin finishes are suitable for evening events, but for a more serious event or daytime wear, matte leather lace-up shoes are ideal and appropriate.

Dark gray: This color only works with black, but it gives you the opportunity to add cork-colored or light wood soles. You can even include laces in a particular shade, patterns, or fabric applications, as well as different types of materials in a single color, which you can obviously wear if they coordinate with the shirt, tie, and accessories you wear with your suit.

Navy blue: You can wear shoes in the same shade as the navy or darker. The advantage of wearing a navy blue suit is that you can wear any type of black shoe, or any very dark blue shoe if appropriate, but be careful when wearing brown shoes. Oxford: A gunmetal or steel-colored shade, this is a medium gray that is almost always used in shiny fabrics, and if so, wear matte shoes. If the suit fabric is dull, take advantage and wear a wide range of finishes. Black is ideal, but any shade of brown from dark to medium also works. Wearing light-colored shoes is prohibited.

LIGHT SUITS

Ash gray: Ash or medium-gray shades. Pairing it with black shoes is ideal, and the look becomes more formal. For less formal occasions, you can wear dark burgundy, medium brown, and maple or honey-colored shoes. Honey-colored shoes may make you hesitant, but they look very good with this type of gray when paired with light-colored shirts.

Ivory: An ivory suit (bone, white, cream, pearl, etc.) is almost as easy to match as a black one. Contrary to what many people believe, you can wear black shoes, medium brown shades (do not wear dark brown, tobacco, or dark chocolate), as well as maple, honey, beige, and shades matching the suit. No pinks, blues, reds, or anything like that. Someone wearing a white suit is doing so for a specific event, and unless you are a rapper, no shoe color outside those mentioned will look dignified with it.

Beige: Or champagne-colored. With a suit in these colors, you can wear any shade of brown; here, dark, medium, and light shades all work. Black is not recommended at all because, as a light color with a yellow undertone, the contrast is too strong and looks very harsh or heavy. Dark or medium blue shoes contrast very well with it, so wear them for something less formal.

Indigo: Indigo blue is a very fashionable suit color for the spring-summer season, and it looks very good with light shoes in honey, maple, and oak shades, as well as very dark cognac. Dark brown shoes look too heavy with it and do not create a good contrast with the blue, but you can wear black shoes, which, as a neutral color, pair very well with blue and make it stand out.

 Khaki: Black shoes work well, but dark brown makes the outfit look very dull, so opt for maple, cognac, and caramel or burnt-honey shades. Blue shoes also work, but they are recommended only for formal-casual daytime events. No other shoe color will work well with khaki, and make sure it coordinates closely with the colors you choose for your shirt and tie.

Brown: Or any dark tobacco-style brown, this only works with shoes in the same shade. This color also tends to be made from thick fibers, so it pairs well with matte shoes made of leather, suede, or nubuck in dark brown shades. In other words, patent leather or shiny shoe textures do not apply here unless the fabric's finish allows them.

Olive: Olive green suits are more common than any other type of green because this color is acceptably formal. To make a suit in any shade of green stand out, the ideal choice is light brown shoes in maple and honey shades, or cognac; chocolate brown also looks good as long as it is not too dark. Black shoes can be worn, preferably with wooden soles to highlight the color.

Wine: A burgundy wine color, not red. With this color, you can wear shoes in the same shade or light brown. If you wear black, try to choose shoes that are more playful, textured, or two-tone. Keep in mind that a wine-colored suit is more relaxed and suited to less serious or formal events.
